Karst Wine: Teran, Vitovska, Malvasia – Fruske

Wines from the Karst region, cured meats, honey, cheeses, vegetables, and small agricultural produce: FRUSKE products are born in Medeazza, in the Municipality of Duino Aurisina-Devin Nabrežina, and they tell the story of a land shaped by stone, sea, wind, and family labour.

Small productions, true flavours, Karst hospitality.

Products of the Karst, not just any products.

FRUSKE products originate from a small farm and a family tradition linked to Osmiza Boris. They do not follow the logic of large quantities: they follow the season, the availability of the land, and the work required to transform a local raw material into a recognisable flavour.

Vitovska, Malvasia and Terrano tell the story of the Karst in the glass. Cured meats, honey, cheeses, preserves and seasonal products tell its story at the table. These are simple, but not commonplace, products: they carry with them the character of the red earth, the Karst stone and the proximity to the sea.

Natural Wines in Medeazza | Fruske Winery, Trieste Karst
In Medeazza, on the Triestine Karst plateau, we produce artisanal wines that faithfully reflect the characteristics of our territory. We cultivate the vineyard using a rural, simple, and direct approach, to bring the true flavour of our land to your glass.
Macerated, unfiltered wines and spontaneous fermentations In the cellar, the rule is to intervene as little as possible. Ours are living wines, they have a Natural fermentation with only indigenous yeasts. The skins undergo a slow Maceration Even for whites, we do a short maceration. It's the traditional Carso method for giving wines more structure, colour, and aromatic complexity. No filtration We bottle our wines without filtering. A slight sediment in the glass is perfectly normal and is the guarantee of a handcrafted product that retains its properties. The historical grape varieties of the Karst We cultivate the three native varieties that have always grown on these rocks: Vitovska: A dry, savoury white with great minerality. Malvasia A more aromatic and structured white, with the typical scents of Mediterranean scrub. Terrano The everyday red of the Karst. Low alcohol, pronounced acidity, and notes of wild berries, perfect for cleansing the palate.

Red of Carso

Terrano: The Petrified Blood of the Karst

Terrano di Fruske is not just a wine; it's a liquid tale of red earth and toil, an unconditional declaration of love for the rocks of Medeazza. In the glass, it ignites with an impenetrable ruby hue and violet reflections, brilliant and wild. On the nose, it’s a proud, bucolic explosion: blueberries, blackberries, and that roaring, ferrous trail that unmistakably recalls the land from which it springs. On the palate, it's untamed, driven by a sharp freshness and a vibrant acidity that make it sprightly, rustic, yet profoundly authentic. It is the companion of a rural life, capable of cleansing the palate and marrying in an indissoluble embrace with strong traditional flavours, cured meats, and meats. A sip of pure, inexhaustible Karst energy.

Vitovska: The silent queen of the rocks

If the Karst region had a white soul, it would taste of Vitovska. Born from vines that sink desperate and courageous roots into the cracks of limestone, it is the absolute symbol of Medeazza's resilience. In the glass, it appears cool and refined, revealing itself with shyness. Its aromas are delicate and whispered: notes of pear, white spring flowers, freshly cut hay, and a dusting of wet stone that dominates the olfactory scene. On the palate, it is pure mineral architecture: direct, austere, incredibly elegant. It doesn't try to please with saccharine sweetness but conquers with its sharp minerality and extreme purity. It is the very essence of stone transformed into nectar, a wine for those who know how to listen to the silences of our land.

Malvasia: A breath of sea on the plateau

The most Mediterranean voice of the Karst, the invisible bridge connecting the stony vineyards of Fruška to the waves of the Gulf. Bright and golden like a late summer afternoon, this Malvasia opens up on the nose with a beguiling and complex bouquet: scents of ripe apricot, wildflowers, chamomile, and the delicate balsamic notes of the sun-warmed karst scrub. On the palate, it's a waltz of richness and sapidity, where the generosity of the fruit meets the sharp salinity brought by the breeze. It is a warm, persistent wine, whispering tales of sailors and farmers of the plateau. Sipped slowly, its elegantly almond-like finish lingers in the memory, making it unforgettable.

Spumante: The rebellious celebration of the wind

A lively interpretation of a land that knows how to be harsh, but that viscerally loves conviviality. The bare rock of Medeazza becomes bubbles, giving life to a perlage Fine, incessant and brilliant, reminiscent of the foam of waves whipped by the Bora wind. On the nose, it's a cool, invigorating breeze: crisp citrus, green apple, subtle notes of bread crust, and an unmistakably iodised finish. In the mouth, it explodes in a burst of freshness, direct and vertical like an arrow. Its natural minerality makes it thirst-quenching, electric, capable of awakening the senses on first contact. It's a celebration of Karst joy, a hymn to lightness to uncork when the table fills with smiles.

Rosé: Dawn stolen from the vines

The enchantment of a Carso sunset captured in a glass. This rosé is a promise of freshness that remains intact from the first sip to the last, capturing the most carefree and vital essence of our red grapes. The colour is a visual caress, a bright and vibrant pink. On the nose, it's a basket of freshly picked early fruits: wild strawberries, fresh raspberries, pomegranate, and wild rose petals kissed by the dew. On the palate, it reveals itself as agile and zesty, with a flavour tension that dances between the subtle sweetness of the fruit and the savoury tang of limestone. It's an informal yet characterful glass, the gentle soul of Medeazza, perfect for being the silent companion of afternoons spent in an 'osmiza'.

DVE: The poetry of encounters

Two, Indeed. Not simply a wine, but a secret alliance between the souls of Fruška, a fusion that surpasses the sum of its parts. It represents the sought-after balance between the rough strength of the territory and the absolute elegance of cellar care. In the glass, it dances with iridescent reflections, offering an olfactory mosaic where suggestions chase each other: at times the softness of fruit stands out, at others the austerity of rock and wind emerges. It is a wine that evolves over time and in the glass, revealing itself in layers. Structured, rounded but never cloying, DVE envelops the palate with a velvety texture before concluding with a hint of unexpected sapidity. It is a glass for contemplation, the ideal toast to celebrate the harmony between man and nature.
